Trackway
Also called Track mat, Temporary roadway
Lighter, often modular matting laid end to end to create a temporary road or path for tracked or wheeled plant to travel across soft or sensitive ground, as distinct from a crane mat, which supports a stationary load at a single fixed position. Trackway is generally sized for distributed traffic loading rather than the concentrated point loads a crane mat must resist.
In practice
The two products answer different questions. Trackway asks how to get a machine across ground without wrecking it or getting stuck; a crane mat asks what happens when that machine stops, sets down on four feet and lifts. Trackway that is perfectly adequate for travelling can be well short of what the same machine needs once it is rigged and working.

Where it matters on site
The moment to check is the transition — where a machine leaves the trackway and sets up. Plan the set-up position and its matting as a separate exercise from the route, because it is a different load case, and because the machine will be at its heaviest and least forgiving exactly where the temporary road stops.
